Senior Chemical Process Engineer

UP Catalyst is a novel deep technology start-up changing the world by producing carbon materials directly from CO2 and waste biomass. We challenge the global carbon material industry by applying greener and more sustainable ways to make carbon nanomaterials and graphite. We bring sustainable production methods to the market while lowering the environmental footprint of electric car batteries by 14%.

We are aiming to upscale our production to a ton scale in 2023 and tens of tons by 2024. We are looking for a chemical process engineer to lead the development of the next phase of UP Catalyst’s growth. Be part of a carbon industry revolution and help us build a greener future.

We are currently looking for a Chemical Process Engineer who would be responsible for:

  • Designing new chemical manufacturing processes, including instrumentation diagrams, material flow diagrams, process flow diagrams
  • Performing calculations using scientific principles such as mass and energy balances, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and organic and inorganic chemistry to design chemical processes for Carbon Fiber, Multi-Wall Carbon Nanotube, Carbon Black, Hard Carbon, Graphite, and Graphene.
  • Evaluating current processes and developing improvements to safety, quality, and efficiency
  • Designing pilot factories for carbon nanomaterial and graphite production
  • Plant engineering evaluation for process safety (risk assessment, safety analysis, overpressure protection, explosion protection.
  • Interdisciplinary cooperation (design engineering, R&D, and production engineering).
  • Emphasis on green chemistry, lean six sigma manufacturing, and sustainable production technologies

Some of the key traits we are looking for include:

  • Applied knowledge and experience of chemical engineering techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to solve highly technical problems
  • Familiarity with process improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, lean manufacturing)
  • Ability to execute tasks with minimal oversight
  • Excellent presentation and verbal communication skills
  • Education: Master’s degree in engineering or Master’s degree in a related field and supplementary courses or experience in thermodynamics, process design, process control, lean manufacturing
  • Work experience 5+ years in the chemical processes engineering field or similar
  • Experience working operationally in chemical plants
  • Professional skills in ChemCAD or similar software.
  • Fluency in English
  • Candidates with International work experience are favored
